The awards are presented by e-Learning Age Magazine, the UK’s leading publication for online and blended learning and are held each year to showcase the latest developments and innovations in the area of e-learning.

Hibernia College has been shortlisted in five categories at the 2010 e-Learning Awards. The awards are presented by e-Learning Age Magazine, the UK’s leading publication for online and blended learning and are held each year to showcase the latest developments and innovations in the area of e-learning.

According to the organisers, “Competition was tough and getting on to the shortlist was harder this year than ever before. More than 200 entries were received so just making the shortlists is a major achievement.”

In 2008 and 2009 Hibernia College won silver and bronze awards and hope to go one better in 2010. This year the college is nominated in the following five categories:

* The best use of synchronous e-learning
* The best online or distance learning programme
* Excellence in the production of learning content
* E-learning industry award for outstanding achievement – individual (Dr. Seán Rowland)
* E-learning industry award for outstanding achievement – corporate.

There are a wide range of distance learning providers in Ireland. Many Universities now offer some Distance Learning options as part of their adult learning programmes. NUIG for example, offers a Diploma/Degree in Social Care (amongst others), while the National College or Ireland, offers a Degree in Human Resource Management.
